School Relations Update

Contributed by: Andrea Unger - Director of School Relations

Hello Cherokee Families!!

Your room parents have been hard at work getting organized for the school year and they have already begun sending out important information! Please make sure you have an account on Cherokeechargers.com so you don’t miss anything. Your child’s room parents will be sending out vital updates about classroom volunteer opportunities, class events and parties, and ways you can help your child have the best year ever!

CLASS FUNDS - Class funds are due by September 8th, 2023. Click here for more information on why classroom support funds are so important!

In School Relations news, the first snack attack of the year will be on September 20th! A snack attack is a fun way to show our teachers and faculty how much we appreciate them by providing a treat or snack during the school day. Please let me know if you are interested in sponsoring the September snack attack or any other snack attack throughout the year (we will try to do them monthly). You can team up with friends and be creative! Plan a fun theme and go the extra mile for our staff that always goes that extra mile for our kids.

There will also be a sign up genius posted on the website for future snack attacks, if September doesn’t work for you but you’d like to still help out.

Thank you!!

Health Info

General Illness Guidelines: If your child is ill, please keep them home until they are fever and vomiting free for at least 24 hours without the use of medication. It is also important to make sure that their symptoms are gone or almost gone, and they are feeling better to the point that they are able to return.

Vision Screening: We are almost complete with vision screening. All students except those who wear glasses, those whose parents opted out, and those who were absent on the screening day have been tested. We will work on completing all absent students by Friday 9/8. If your student was referred for a comprehensive eye exam by an optometrist or ophthalmologist, we have already reached out to you through ParentSquare and a note home with your student!

There is overwhelming data to support the fact that visual impairments can negatively impact educational performance, so we are so lucky that we have the time and resources to screen the entire school!

Symptoms Before School: Is your child complaining of a stomachache or headache before school? Think it might be the jitters or unsure if they are sick? It is my general recommendation to not tell your child that you will come pick them up because it sets them up

for failure. If they are truly ill, rest assured that their teacher will make sure to get them to the health office and we will reach out to you!

Never hesitate to reach out to me with any questions or concerns. Email and Parent Square are the fastest ways to reach me, but I can also be reached via phone as well!

Cardiac Screening

I wanted to share a super exciting opportunity for you, your family, and our Cherokee community.

The Anthony Bates Foundation will be offering low-cost cardiac screenings for anyone 10 years of age or older at Saguaro High School on Saturday, September 9th, from 10am to 4pm (Appointment Encouraged).

This screening includes both an EKG and an echocardiogram.  As you will see in the flyer, the prices cannot be beat as these services would likely cost $500-$1,000 at your doctor’s office.

As we saw on our very own campus last year, undiagnosed cardiac defects can be deadly.  Please see the link to the flyer here and I encourage you to share it with your families: https://app.peachjar.com/flyers/2502539/districts/4764

Please let me know if you have any questions!

Take care,
